Schelma changed ownership in October 2024. The new owner is currently making significant changes to the shop in Brussels. In the meantime, the website is temporarily paused. The previous owners have relocated to Japan.

Mingei
Since 1987, we have spent 2-3 months a year mostly in the South of Japan, where we find our items through small dealers and private parties. We then display them in our 200 square meter show room in Brussels and in our online shop.

Ancient traditional furniture - tansu and folk art - mingei are our speciality
As we buy most of our tansu from small dealers and even sometimes directly from private houses, it is vital to restore or at least to clean up most of them. We do our best to do so without damaging their original finishing and patina as that is what makes them unique.
