Letter of invitation
for the open days
in March-April 2000

We are pleased to invite you to our three open days which we organize on Friday, March 31st, from 12 pm to 9 pm. On Saturday and Sunday, April 1st and 2nd, from 10 am to 7 pm in our warehouse located in Rue de Chambéry, 45 in Etterbeek - Brussels. Our shop will exceptionally be closed for these three days.

Last February, we came back from Japan after having spent six weeks collecting a wide range of objects and some magnificient pieces of furniture as well. Here are some of the items we found :

Japanese items:
1 yoroi (samurai's armor) - 1 andon (lamp) - 1 chakobochi (tea accessory) - 1 dai (show stand) - 1 dora (gong) - 1 ema (painting on wood) - 1 furo (tea ceremony brazier) - 1 goban (go game set) - Some hon (books) - 2 ittomasu (rice mesure) - 3 jizaikagi (trammel) - Some kadai (bonsai's display table) - 1 kami-dana (shinto family's altaar) - 2 kouro (incent burner) - 2 natsume (tea powder pot) - 1 omen (mask) - 2 ranma (ornament which is placed on top of sliding doors) - 1 shiogi-dai (shogi table), 5 soroban (abacus) - 2 tabakobon (ashtray set) - some takazen (dinner-table) - 3 teaburi (hand-warmer) - 4 tetsubin (kettle) - 3 ohitsu (rice bucket) - 2 kattshya (pulley) - 2 kotatsu (heater-table) - 3 tsuridoro (lantern) - 2 usubata (Ikebana vase) - Some statuettes of which 4 butsuzo (Buddha), 1 fukurukuju (one of the 7 lucky charm gods), 1 fukusuke (lucky charm for business), 1 hotei (one of the 7 lucky charm gods), 1 manekineko (beckoning cat), 1 okimono (ornament) and a big statue of Kouboudaishi - Some dolls - 5 obi (kimono sash), some kimono, haori and other traditional Japanese clothes - Some owan (lacquered bowls) - Some iko (kimono stand) - Some sudare (blind) - 2 sara (plate) - Some multi-purpose baskets: 1 biku (fish basket), 3 kago (food basket), 2 hanaire (ikebana stand) - Multi-purpose cases and boxes: 1 kakesuzuri-bako (portable writing box-safe), 2 okamochi (lunch container), many hari-bako (used for sewing), 4 kohikidashi (small drawers' chest), 1 kakejiku-dai (scroll stand), zeni-bako (money-box), kyodai (dressing), some ju-bako (special day's lunch lacquered box) - Some accessories as well as various ornament and little contemporary traditional Japanese style crockery.

Japanese furniture:
11 mizuya-dansu (kitchen cabinet) of various sizes - 12 isho-dansu (kimono and personal garments chest) - 8 choba-dansu (merchant chest) - 1 futon-dansu (chest for storing futons) 2 monoire-dansu (storing chest) - Many ko-dansu (small multi-purpose furniture) - 1 daifukuchoukake (chest for keeping account) - Some cha-dansu (tea chest) - Some to (old traditiona doors) - Some hibachi (brazier table) - Many low tables - A few low desks - Etc..

From Korea:
Quite a few bandaji (blanket chest) of which 2 from North Korea - Many yichung-jang and yichung-nong (chest on chest) - Many euguri-jang (wardrobe) - Some low desks - Some low tables - Some cha-dana (tea chest) - A few splendid chests of various purposes - A few items - Etc..

Our selection criteria : all the pieces that we bring back must be genuine, have less than 15% of restoration and have been made before WW2. More recent pieces are not excluded if they represent traditional Japan and are very rare as antique.
